Good Good Father!

This morning, upon waking, I was reminded of the journey I walked when my sons were ill. Believe it or not, I have a testimony to share, but I haven’t quite gotten around to it yet. Part of the reason is that I simply don’t have the words yet, and when I try, I find myself lost in thanksgiving, with very little writing actually completed. Watch this space; one day, it will emerge on my blog. Anyway, I woke up today remembering this journey.

During the time when I watched my children endure the pain of sickness, I had conversations with God, even though I could barely find time to spend with Him. The situation consumed me. While doctors could explain the genetics behind it, I still knew that my children were created by God, and I recognized Him as loving, all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present. So, each time tears welled up over the situation, I couldn’t fathom why He wasn’t intervening. I asked Him several times why He wasn’t doing anything to resolve it.

Eventually, I came to understand that this situation wasn’t God’s desire. There were truths I hadn’t fully grasped, and as a result, the circumstances remained unchanged. I’ll delve into this further later, but the bottom line is that God was waiting for me to exercise my authority.

What provided solace was my recognition that something didn’t align with His character. He is loving, ever-present, and all-powerful, and I am His child—yes, His child! In this moment, the words of Matthew 7:7-9 resonated with me:

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Indeed, God surpasses my abilities as a parent. He is inherently good, desiring to grant our requests. However, it is crucial for me to stand firm in faith, believing that He has already answered my prayers the very moment I utter them. His character remains unwavering, even when circumstances appear unfavourable.

Consider this: just as I wouldn’t intentionally give my children harmful gifts like sickness, poverty, or death, neither does God. In fact, because He is the ultimate parent, He lavishes us with every good thing. I will say it again,Every good thing!

Luke 2:32 reassures us: “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” This verse emphasizes God’s desire to bestow good things upon us.

Additionally, James 1:17 reinforces this truth: “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” Indeed, God’s character remains unwavering, and His blessings flow abundantly.

And let’s not forget Psalm 84:11: “No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” As we walk in alignment with Him, He graciously provides all that is good.

With this in mind, it is crucial to acknowledge and embrace the truth that God desires to bestow every good thing upon us. It brings Him pleasure, and it is inherent in His character as Jehovah Jireh—our provider. His faithfulness remains unwavering, and He diligently watches over His word to fulfill what it promises. Consider this: He even sacrificed His only Son; why, then, would He withhold anything from us? Our heavenly Father longs to meet our needs today; He does not withhold His provision.

Reflect on Romans 8:32: “He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?”

This really lights me up and fills me with a desire to dance and express gratitude to God. Take a moment to meditate on the knowledge that you have a loving Father who eagerly desires to provide for your every need.

Take a moment to say, “God, I know You have already given me [fill in the blank], and I am truly grateful.
